Main Points of the Recent Assessment Change to
Properties in Westport
Residents of Westport who own property received new property assessments this past week. The town has completed its 5-year revaluation for the 2025 Grand List.
During the past 5 years it should be noted that market values have increased significantly.
The assessed value is calculated at 70% of the market value as of October 1,2025. Real estate taxes are calculated by multiplying the assessment by the mill rate. The new mill rate will be set during the budget process in Spring 2026. Once this is done the taxes for 2026 can be calculated. They go into effect July 1, 2026.
Revaluations are used to redistribute the tax burden fairly based on current market values.
The average residential assessment increased by 61%.
If your home's value rose less than the average, taxes may increase slightly or even decrease. It it rose more than the average you should expect your taxes to increase.
Vision Government Solutions is the firm that calculated the new assessments. They get the values by driving by the homes.🏠
If you are not happy with your new assessment you need to phone or meet with Vision Government Solutions before December 23 to review. To schedule an appointment go to www.vgsi.com/schedules & follow the instructions.
After meeting with the company, if needed, a property owner can contest the new assessment by filing a written appeal with the Board of Assessments Appeals before February 1 and February 20, 2026.
Before you make your appointment before December 23rd you should review your property's information, such as SF, size of property, style number of rooms etc by going to http://gis.vgsi.com/westportct. Errors could occur. You can also compare your properties value to other similar homes located in your area of Westport. If you feel your assessment is incorrect then follow the instructions above and note the date expirations.
